Overwatch 2 artwork for the Season 7 control map Samoa

[Update #2:] Overwatch 2's Season 9 will bring self-healing to DPS and tank heroes, among other major changes.

[Update]: Season 7 has now arrived, and aside from a small hiccup with Hanzo, things seem to be going quite well!

While it has the unenviable task of trying to live up to the massive Season 6 update, Overwatch 2's Season 7 will be coming this October 10th to wow players with some fun new changes and additions. You can expect to see a tropical new Control map by the name of Samoa, reworks for both Sombra and Roadhog, as well as a plethora of new cosmetics, including Hanzo's rather fancy Mythic-tier skin.

Speaking of Sombra, her invisibility has been transformed into a passive ability that triggers when she's out of combat. Her signature hack ability prevents enemies from using their own abilities and reveals them through walls, and can also be used on health packs in order to lock them from the enemy team and make them respawn faster. Translocator is no longer a set-and-forget kind of ability and will now always teleport you when thrown - either after a short delay or when it hits the terrain.

If you're wondering why stealth is suddenly a passive, that would be because Sombra is getting a new ability - Virus. The way it works is quite simple. You infect enemies with a projectile that deals damage over time, with hacked enemies taking damage at a much faster rate. Simple, yet effect! As for her ultimate, it seems to be mostly the same. You deal damage to all nearby enemies based on a percentage of their current health, hack them and destroy any barriers around you.

What all of this looks like in action, as well as what theme the skins are going for, that you can check out through the trailer below:

As is tradition, there will also be a couple of events to mess around with over the coming weeks and months. The various Halloween Terror game modes will be making their expected return, though there will be an additional boss-battling, co-op focused and Diablo 4 themed game mode called Trials of Sanctuary that will give you amped up abilities and plenty of opportunities to use them!

You can learn more about these additions, as well as the Sombra rework in particular, over at the Blizzard website. Enjoy, and I'll make sure to let you know once the Season 7 update goes live and we can all finally give the new stuff a proper shake.
