[Update #2]: Rain World's Downpour expansion has now arrived, and so far it's looking quite good!
[Update]: Rain World's very first expansion Downpour will be landing on January 19th, 2023 - six years after the original launch!
You have to give credit to Adult Swim, the games they choose to support are always the weirdest and most unique ones out there. And as you can probably guess from the title alone, Rain World is definitely one of them given that its an action-adventure where you can sneak, climb, and pounce around as a cat/slug hybrid.
While the concept sounds absolutely ridiculous, the gameplay shown so far seems to be remarkably solid. But don't just listen to me, see it for yourself via the recently posted "Fate of a Slugcat" trailer that showcases both story and gameplay elements. Have a look:
While this doesn't do much in terms of gameplay, the most unique thing about the adorable Slugcat is that it has procedurally generated animations! In other words, no matter what sort of a situation you find yourself in Slugcat's body will react with "a natural fluidity of movement and unique sense of weight". This is not a feature you see very often, especially not in indie games, so consider me impressed by how floppy Slugcat really is.
Besides flopping around Rain World features around 1600 rooms for you to explore, as well as 12 diverse regions filled with a variety of secrets to uncover and danger to avoid. With limited resources, frequent attacks by predators, and the impending threat of deadly rain your journey is not going to be an easy one, but judging by everything shown so far it appears its going to be an interesting one.
If you would like to learn more about Rain World ahead of its March 28th release date I would recommend heading over to either the official website or Steam. And as a final note, here's some rather bizarre but intriguing images:
