If you're in the mood for a large-scale strategy game that emulates the oldschool XCOM, you might be interested to hear that Phoenix Point has now been released on PC. As you would expect given its inspiration, Phoenix Point features turn-based combat on procedurally generated maps, a whole bunch of deadly aliens you'll need to carefully dispatch from mission to mission, as well as the ability to manage every aspect of your base and the loadout of your soldiers.
You can get a pretty good idea of what all of this looks like in action, as well as get a Phoenix Point is really all about, through the recently posted developer tutorial series. Have a gander, it's a pretty long and detailed one:
As for whether Phoenix Point is as good as the original XCOM, I'm afraid I don't know as it has pretty much just launched. What I can tell from the few preview videos, however, is the whole thing is a little bit clunky, though seemingly complex enough to make that a non-issue. How exactly all of this will fare once players get comfortable and really start diving into all of the various systems, only time will tell, so you might want to wait a little while before grabbing yourself a copy - just to be on the safe side.
Either way, you can learn more about Phoenix Point, as well as keep up with any further updates, over at the official website.
