XCOM and its expansion Enemy Within occupied much of my time the past year, the combination of slick graphics and tactical decision-making simply proving too irresistible. However, as I played the games for the second and even third time it became quickly apparent that while the early game progression is satisfying the mid to late game simply goes by too quickly to ever enjoy properly.
This is where the Long War mod came in and completely revolutionized how I play XCOM. Suddenly there were even more classes, even more choices to have and an alien AI that was capable of matching me during long campaigns, in other words everything I wanted out of XCOM to begin with.
And so I am really glad to tell you that the team behind XCOM's Long War mod is now working on their own new game titled Terra Invicta. Here's a quote from the developers explaining what exactly TI will be about:
"Terra Invicta is a grand strategy game in which the player leads the defense of Earth during an alien invasion.
An alien force has arrived in the far reaches of Solar System and begun probing Earth's defenses and building an invasion fleet. The player must assemble a council of scientists, politicians, military leaders and operatives who can unite Earth's squabbling nations with the ultimate goal of taking the fight to the aliens in the high ground of outer space."
As of right now there is no further information about it but just the fact that the Long War team is working on a deep strategy game is enough to get me excited as now there will be two potentially great XCOM games to look forward to, even though one won't bear the title.
According to their website Terra Invicta is currently in pre-Kickstarter development and as such they don't have any more details to share at this point. As soon any further information shows up I'll make sure to update you.
