[Update #2]: After three years in Early Access, Baldur's Gate 3 has now launched to overwhelming praise!

[Update]: Larian Studios have now released an extended gameplay preview for Baldur's Gate 3 and confirmed that the combat will be turn-based rather than real-time.

A little while ago Larian Studios, the developers behind the truly excellent Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2, released a simple teaser website pointing towards some sort of mysterious sequel. Or at least that would be the case if the information-hungry players didn't rummage through absolutely everything they could and ran across multiple mentions of Wizards of the Coast and Baldur's Gate 3!

However, while the announcement might not come as much of a surprise, I am still extremely happy to say that Larian Studios is officially working on Baldur's Gate 3! Here's the announcement trailer, it's quite an interesting one to say the least:

There is basically no information currently available, but from what Larian have mentioned throughout their various interviews, it would appear that Baldur's Gate 3 will attempt to do some new and unique things with the genre. Furthermore, it will feature some of the most memorable locations from the previous Baldur's Gate games, though it will not spend too much time reminiscing and will instead focus on being its own game.

As for what style of combat they will use, turn-based or real-time, Larian has not announced just yet. Personally, I'd prefer a turn-based variant as I'm not exactly a fan of having a 'real-time' system where I have to pause every 0.5 seconds in order to issue orders. That said, I know there's a lot of people that will vehemently disagree with me, so I can only hope Larian will follow the path Pillars of Eternity 2 set and make it so both are a viable option!

Once more information becomes available I'll make sure to let you know as I'm quite intrigued myself. Until then, make sure to keep an eye on the official website for any further teaser trailers.

Up for some more?
