This shouldn't come as much of a surprise given how often it was teased on Twitch these past few days, but Gwent's very own Arena game mode has now made its way to the live servers. The way it works is quite simple. While drafting your deck you will always have a choice between four completely random cards of the same rarity, and all you really have to do is pick the 25 cards and leader you think are going to be the most useful.
Once you have your deck assembled you will have to face off against your fellow players until you either achieve 9 victories or 3 losses. The more wins you get the greater the rewards will be at the very end, and as an additional little bonus, if you somehow manage to complete your Arena run without being defeated you will also be granted an animated Gold card. Not bad for a game mode that gives you 3 free tries!
I've played two Arena runs so far and I must say I'm quite happy with the results. Due to the completely different format many of the previously useless cards are now suddenly well worth playing, while the randomness of the whole system has also forced players to use leaders they would almost never touch otherwise. The end result is a game mode that's a little bit chaotic, but still highly enjoyable due to all of the unexpected combos. I just wish CDPR would finally do something about the whole coin flip situation as going first in Arena is even worse than in Ranked, but that's a discussion for another day.
And finally, allow me to share with you the recently posted cinematic trailer staring the always lovely Gaunter O'Dimm. It won't tell you much about the Arena, but it sure is a treat to watch if you're familiar with The Witcher 3's lore. Enjoy, and good luck in the Arena!
