In celebration of Sonic's 30th anniversary, Microsoft and Sega have teamed up to release something I doubt anyone could've expected - a Sonic DLC for Minecraft! And no, this doesn't mean just a couple of new Sonic themed skins or blocks. Instead the newly launched DLC attempts to recreate Sonic's gameplay in Minecraft, which is about as ambitious as it sounds!
Since words alone simply can't even begin to describe this cross-over, allow me to share with you the recently posted trailer. It should clue you in quite quickly on just what to expect from Sonic in Minecraft. Have a gander:
While all of this is certainly delightful, I do need to warn you that the actual gameplay is incredibly janky. Minecraft was just never designed with Sonic's speed and maneuverability in mind, and you easily see the engine struggle and groan with some of the more demanding sections. Still, the whole thing works a lot better than I expected, so consider me thoroughly impressed!
It's also worth mentioning that the Sonic DLC only applies to the Bedrock version and is not compatible with the Java version. As for the price tag, the whole Sonic experience will set you back 1340 Minecoins or about $8.
You can check out the Sonic DLC yourself, as well as read a tiny bit more about it, over at the Minecraft website. Have fun!
