[Update]: MTG Arena's Alchemy: Murders at Karlov Manor mini-set is launching on March 5th, and it brings with it a potential teaser for 4-player games!
While it got mostly overshadowed by the Murder at Karlov Manor reveals, MTG Arena's most recent update has brought with it a nifty batch of balance changes. The goal behind the whole update, as you might expect, was to give a bit of a boost to some of the underpowered or underused mechanics.
In this case, that would be Dominaria United's Domain and The Brothers' War's Powerstones - two mechanics that did see some competitive play at first, but just didn't have the raw power needed to contend with the constant influx of new cards. As such, a whole bunch of them have just received a variety of buffs, mostly related to their cost and power, as have a couple of cards that interact with the two mechanics.
You can check out the full list of changes, as well as Wizards of the Coast's reasoning behind them, over at the official website.
While I doubt even these buffs are going to make Domain or Powerstones a particularly dominant strategy, some of the more powerful individual cards do have some serious potential. I'm especially curious to see how Soul of Windgrace will fare now that you can make him indestructible for only one mana, especially in Brawl where you can afford to cast and re-cast him over and over again.
Whatever the case may be, I hope we get even more of these types of updates in the near future. They might not all be game-changers but, as we've seen time and time again, even a couple of small tweaks here and there can help new deck archetypes flourish.
