MTG Arena artwork for Gandalf, Friend of the Shire card

[Update #2]: All of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan cards have now been revealed ahead of the November 14th launch. And, Brawl players are getting a little bonus surprise!

[Update]: MTG Arena's dinosaur-flavored The Lost Caverns of Ixalan is launching on November 14th.

It took far, far longer than anyone could've expected, but I'm pleased to say that MTG Arena's latest update has now finally added the ability to select your preferred card style. As a part of this addition the entire 'styles' portion of the collection screen has now been removed, while all of the styles and alternate arts have been bundled together under each individual card.

So if you want to change your preferred printing or card style, all you have to do is click on the arrows located at the top left side of the card, select whichever version or style you want, and you're done. Your favorites (marked with a heart) will be stored from that point onward and you won't ever have to worry about them ever again. And if you want to use a different style for a little while, that whole process is as simple as adding your preferred variant to your deck, even if something else is favorited.

However, there is a bit of a catch, or perhaps just an oversight with the whole system. Basically, card styles are tied to a specific printing of a card, and if you don't own that specific printing you can't apply its linked style to your card. For example, if you have an old copy of Omniscience you aren't able to apply or favorite the anime alternate art from WOE - you need a WOE copy for that. It's a rather nonsensical system, so I can only hope the MTG Arena team will sort that out as well over the course of the next few updates.

In somewhat unrelated, though still quite exciting news, there will be a Historic All Access "Basically No Bans" event running from November 2-14. So if you're up for playing with the most ridiculously broken cards on MTG Arena, definitely give the event a try as the previous version was a ton of fun. As for the banlist, I'm afraid that hasn't been announced just yet, though I can only imagine Channel will be getting the boot as the card simply warps the entire metagame around itself.

Whatever the case may be, I'll make sure to let you know once the event goes live. Until then, have fun picking and choosing your favorite styles!
