[Update #2]: My Overwatch 2 review is now out, and to put it simply it's a terrible sequel, though thankfully a terrific game!
[Update]: The Overwatch 2 team has now detailed the fox themed support Kiriko's abilities, playstyle and lore, as well as announced all of the balance changes coming in with the launch update.
In an announcement that shouldn't come as too much of a surprise given that it was accidentally leaked a little while ago, the Overwatch 2 team has now unveiled the very first new support hero - Kiriko. As you might expect from the teasers in the original game, the freshly revealed Kiriko is a wall-climbing, kunai-wielding healer accompanied by a spirit fox.
What she looks like in action, as well as what her abilities are all about, that you can check out through the gameplay trailer below:
It's hard to judge how good Kiriko will truly be without seeing the numbers behind her skills, but having the ability to either grant immortality or massive damage resistance to multiple people is always going to be a handy tool. That's also something that's really hard to balance, as we've seen with Baptiste's immortality field and Brigitte's armor packs, so expect Kiriko to go through a bit of a balance rollercoaster before she finally settles in.
Everyone who logs into Overwatch 2 will be granted Junker Queen and Sojourn instantly, while unlocking Kiriko will require you to reach level 55 in the free Battle Pass. If you own the original Overwatch, or if you pay for the premium Battle Pass, you'll be able to skip the grind and get Kiriko immediately.
As for the release date, Kiriko and all of the new cosmetics will be going live with Overwatch 2 on October 4th. Once they arrive I'll make sure to let you know, but for now you can learn a little bit more about Overwatch 2 and its plans by hopping to the official website. Enjoy!
