While Reinhardt is in a pretty good place right now, the poor guy's abilities are so buggy that it's almost guaranteed you'll lose at least one fight per session because of some bizarre interaction. As such, I am delighted to announce that the latest Overwatch PTR update has corrected many of his bugs, most notably the ones related to charge and earthshatter.
The update has also corrected the most recent bug that caused Roadhog's hook to randomly break, an issue that prevented Widowmaker's grappling hook from attaching to certain ledges, and perhaps most importantly of all, the bug that resulted in Wrecking Ball doing the same area-of-effect damage to all targets regardless of distance. The patch notes are fairly small, so if you're interested, here are all of the details:
• General
- Added visual outlines to make allies visible through walls
- Fixed a bug that caused players to sometimes slip off railings
• Brigitte
- Fixed a bug that caused Brigitte to abruptly change directions when she stopped holding her Barrier Shield
• Doomfist
- Fixed a bug that caused Doomfist’s Seismic Slam to cancel when using Symmetra’s teleporter
• Reinhardt
- Fixed a bug that allowed Reinhardt to pin targets that were behind him when using Charge
- Fixed a bug that prevented Reinhardt to pin some targets when he turned during Charge
- Fixed a bug that allowed Reinhardt to use Earthshatter while standing on an enemy’s head
- Fixed a bug that prevented Reinhardt’s Earthshatter from sometimes hitting enemies standing on a payload
- Fixed a bug that prevented Reinhardt’s Earthshatter from traveling up certain inclines
- Fixed a bug that caused Reinhardt to abruptly change directions when he stopped holding his Barrier Field
• Roadhog
- Fixed a bug that caused Roadhog’s Chain Hook to sometimes break after hitting an enemy
• Sombra
- Fixed a bug that prevented Sombra from translocating to a moving platform when using her Translocator
- Fixed a bug that prevented Sombra’s Translocator from accurately indicating where Sombra would arrive when the ability was used
• Widowmaker
- Fixed a bug that prevented Widowmaker’s Grappling Hook from connecting to some ledges
- Grappling Hook now retains momentum when used on environments or structures without a ledge (e.g. walls)
• Wrecking Ball
- Fixed a bug that caused all enemies to use the same damage falloff calculation
While the bug fixes are definitely going to help out the affected heroes, it is the option to add visual outlines for all heroes that I feel is the most exciting. Not only will DPS heroes now know exactly where their healers are and if they are in line of sight, but they will also have a much better sense of how the fight is progressing and where to pounce from. I can only hope we'll get more of these kinds of features in the future because having access to more information is pretty much never a bad thing.
If Blizzard adds any major changes to the PTR, or if the update goes live with the upcoming Competitive Season, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, make sure to finish your Nano Cola D.Va challenge as it awards a new skin and some rather adorable sprays!
