After somehow managing to avoid having any part of the event leaked beforehand, a problem that has plagued literally every single major update so far, the Overwatch team has now unleashed the second annual Winter Wonderland event! It has brought with it last year's Mei snowball fight, a brand new game mode that's centered around five Mei players hunting down a very hungry Yeti Winston, a variety of bug fixes, and perhaps most importantly of all, a whole bunch of excellent skins!
If you're interested in seeing what all of these new cosmetics look like, but you don't feel like browsing through all of the various heroes, worry not as Blizzard has now released a brief teaser trailer showing them off. Have a look:
Before you get too excited about Hanzo's casual skin, it is very important to mention that it currently appears to be a bit unfinished. The hero portrait is so janky it looks like it was made out of playdough, there is a noticeable gap between his hairline and his beard, and perhaps most annoying of all, the scope on his weapon is unnaturally bright which is just distracting. As you might imagine none of this represents a major issue, but I'd still recommend waiting with your purchase, just to see if Blizzard actually fixes it.
As for the bug fixes and quality-of-life changes, you'll find the full list over at the official website. Long story short: most of Doomfist's bugs have been fixed, you now get a message in-game when your reports result in another player getting hit with a disciplinary action, you can now clear out those annoying "new item" notifications with the single press of a button, Mei's Cryofreeze (Iceblock) now properly purges Ana's Biotic Grenade, and the list goes on. These are all relatively minor changes, but don't be fooled by their size, they really do make an impact when it comes to the overall balance!
And as a final note, it also important to mention that the Overwatch developers will soon be removing performance based rating adjustments for Diamond tier and above. They will also be tightening the SR difference between the lowest and highest player in a match, which should hopefully result in more balanced games and less steamrolls. If you're interested in learning more you should head over here, but just bear in mind that these changes will only really be going in effect this January once Season 8 begins.
Good luck with your Loot Boxes, and allow me to leave you with a couple of 'festive' images. The last one is quite the hoot! Sorry...
