The Psychonauts 2 team posing.

[Update]: Six years after its big reveal, Psychonauts 2 has now finally been unleashed onto PC and consoles!

Psychonauts was a truly strange game, fun and well written for sure but not the most polished. So I find it extremely puzzling how it got such a cult following the last few years, seemingly out of nowhere.

A following so huge that Psychonauts 2 raised $1,5 Million in a single day on its fig.co campaign, one of the fastest Millions I've seen raised in a crowdfunder. And given how hilarious the last parts of the trailer alone were I have high hopes for it now. Check it out.

I am also glad Double Fine decided to use a public fundraiser in order to "simply" top off their game's development rather than fully fund it. The plan is for the majority of the money to be cowered by investors, Double Fine, and a mysterious external partner who seemingly gave a lot of money to the game's development. And if you're thinking its Notch I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you because he confirmed on twitter that he is not.

Usually I'm against kickstarters or other such fundraisers because you never know if the game is even going to come out but with Double Fine you can be pretty certain that Psychonauts 2 is coming out, though the question of release quality still remains. I enjoyed my time with Broken Age but then again I didn't fund it so I didn't have two years of expectations riding on it, easy to see how one might get disappointed.

If you want to help out the development of Psychonauts 2 the lowest tier that rewards the game is the $33 one. Just remember, you are not investing in the game nor are you purchasing it outright, you are simply giving money towards development with the idea that you'll get a game out of it eventually.
