If you're not a fan of Overwatch's Competitive Play and you only really do it for the shiny golden guns, you might want to start doing your placement matches as Season 6 is set to end later this week. To be more specific, Season 6 will officially end on Saturday, October 28th at 5pm PDT (or Sunday, October 29th at 00:00 UTC). Thankfully there won't be much of a delay between seasons like last year, so you can expect Season 7 to start up three days later on Tuesday, October 31st at 5pm PDT ( or Thursday, November 1st at 00:00 UTC).

With that out of the way, its also important to mention that the seasons and their accompanying Competitive Point (CP) rewards have been changed a little while back. Instead of three months the seasons now 'only' last two, while their final rewards have gone down in order to compensate for their shorter length. On the positive side, you do get a bit more CP with each victory now, so if you tend to play a lot of competitive games you're going to earn more golden guns than you can possibly know what to do with... and yes, I'm speaking from personal experience here.

As always, your final rewards are based on your season high and not on your current rank. So if you've managed to reach Grandmaster once, only to fall all the way to Diamond, you're still going to get a Grandmaster's worth of CP. Here's a brief list showing how much each rank will give you:

1-1499 (Bronze): 65 CP

1500-1999 (Silver): 125 CP

2000-2499 (Gold): 250 CP

2500-2999 (Platinum): 500 CP

3000-3499 (Diamond): 750 CP

3500-3999 (Master): 1250 CP

4000-5000 (Grandmaster): 1750 CP

There are probably going to be some major changes to Competitive Play going forward, but what exactly those changes are I'm afraid we won't find out for a little while. Blizzard has now entered their pre-Blizzcon silence period, so there's not going to be any new announcements or developer updates until the Overwatch panel finally kicks off. If its any comfort, we at least won't have to wait for very long as Blizzcon is set to start on Friday, November 3rd.

Up for some more?
