One of the most exciting features of Stardock's upcoming RTS, Ashes of the Singularity, are the battles which can span the entire globe and involve thousands of units at the same time, a feat that hasn't been attempted before. Add to that a smart AI opponent that doesn't need to resort to cheating, and you've got yourself the makings of a potentially spectacular strategy game.
After going through a well received Early Access phase, Ashes of the Singularity will be officially releasing on March 31st. Here's the launch trailer, courtesy of PC Gamer's Youtube channel:
Perhaps the most intriguing part about Ashes of the Singularity is that it doesn't require beastly hardware in order to render its grand, explosion-filled battles between hundreds, if not thousands of units. A fairly standard combination of i5 CPU and GTX 970 GPU is more than capable of running it, with the only "big" requirement being the need for 16GB of RAM. I'm not sure what sorcery was involved in optimizing the engine AotS runs on, but color me impressed.
