For those of you that might not know, Obsidian is the studio responsible for some of the finest RPG games out there: Knights of the Old Republic 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, Neverwinter Nights 2, and the list goes on. As for Tyranny, its a bit of a unique RPG as its set in a world where evil has won, good has been vanquished, and people are now trying to establish peace and order after hordes of demons ravaged their way across the land. Not your usual 'collect the magical doodads representing the four elements' affair!
If this is the sort of RPG that gets your ears all perked up, you'll be glad to hear that you won't have to wait for very long in order to play it as Tyranny is set to release on November 10... this year! In order to celebrate this announcement, and hopefully give you an idea of what Tyranny is all about, the developers also released a brief story trailer titled Fatebinder. Have a look:
Since the trailer doesn't feature much in terms of actual gameplay, at least not enough to help you decide whether Tyranny is worth your time and money, those curious can find a lengthy, developer-guided playthrough by heading over here. The footage is a little bit old by now and features the game in an early alpha/beta state, but it should still demonstrate what exactly Tyranny's all about. As for my impressions? Its pretty damn good, though I've been a fan of every single one of Obsidian's RPGs (even the unpolished ones such as Alpha Protocol), so I'm not sure if I'm really the most neutral source on this.
