It seems that Blizzard has finally noticed how successful (and lucrative) Dota 2 and CS:GO's Battle Passes truly are as StarCraft 2 will soon be getting one of its own. The upcoming War Chest will introduce more than 70 new items spread across three phases, including things such as: sprays, emoticons, portraits, and most importantly of all, Starcraft 2's very first army-wide skins!
Each of the factions will have their own War Chest, and in order to advance through it and collect all of the skins you will need to play either multiplayer or co-op matches. If you're planning to grab all of them but are worried due to the amount of games you'd need to play in order to level all three, worry not as all progress will be shared between the War Chests! Here's the recently posted announcement video covering most of the important details:
The purchase period will end on October 4th, after which you will receive one month of bonus XP in order to complete your War Chest and unlock all of the rewards. So even though it might seem like a daunting task at first you'll have quite a few months in order to complete it, which should be enough for even the most casual of players.
Much like Dota 2's Battle Pass 25% of all War Chest purchases will go directly to StarCraft 2's esports scene. The first $200K will be added to the already established $500k BlizzCon 2017 prize pool, while any surplus funds will go towards increasing the event's production value and scale. I'd personally prefer to see the prize pool go even higher as that way more pros can make an actual living by playing competitively, but I suppose a $700K bounty will do just as well for now.
To learn more, or grab yourself a few War Chests once they finally become available, I would suggest heading over to the official website. And finally, here's a couple of images showcasing the new faction-specific cosmetics:
