THQ Nordic teaser image for the South Park Digital Studios

In a bit of an unexpected twist given that both South Park: The Stick of Truth and South Park: The Fractured But Whole were well received, Ubisoft appears to have let go of the rights for the series. Instead, the next South Park game will be developed by THQ Nordic and their ever-expanding umbrella of studios.

This announcement comes to us from the very end of the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2022 stream, with the entirety of the teaser being a single image showing the South Park Digital Studios logo along with Randy Marsh yelling "hot, hot, hot, hot!" Needless to say, it's not a lot to go on!

Given the brevity of the teaser and the lack of information about... anything, I can only imagine that the South Park game is still a couple of years away. As such, I would recommend against getting too excited about the project since right now we don't even know what kind of gameplay style it's going for. Maybe it'll be a turn-based RPG like the Ubisoft games, maybe it'll go back to South Park's roots and give the whole FPS thing another bash, or maybe it'll do something completely unexpected.

Whatever the case may be, I'll make sure to let you know once more information becomes available. Until then, I'll leave you with the Youtube version of the Digital Showcase stream. Enjoy!
