Total War: Troy artwork showing off the Cyclops and Cerberus

[Update #2]: Total War: Pharaoh will be Creative Assembly's next mainline, historical grand strategy game.

[Update]: Total War: Troy has now been released onto Steam alongside the new Mythos expansion.

While Total War: Troy ended up being a pretty fun experience, especially once the Amazons update launched, it never really managed to grip me the same way Total War: Warhammer 2 did. Looking back at it I'd say this was primarily because Troy couldn't decide if it was going to be a historical or mythological game. Instead of sticking to one theme and polishing it up to a mirror sheen, Troy tried to please everyone which, as you might imagine, just ended up making it feel unfocused.

Quite a bit of time has gone by since then, but I'm happy to say that the developers will soon be making amends for that little mistake. As a part of the upcoming Mythos expansion Total War: Troy will not only add a whole assortment of mythological monsters and themed units, but also a fully fledged historical mode without any overpowered heroes beating up entire armies on their own!

Rather than babble on, allow me to share with you the recently posted trailer. It should clue you in fairly quickly on just what the Mythos expansion is going for. Have a gander:

If all of this sounds like a good time, you'll also be interested to hear that you won't have to wait all that long in order to dive in. The Mythos expansion, and its accompanying free update, will be launching at 3pm BST on September 2nd at a $25 price tag!

You can learn more about the Mythos expansion, as well as keep an eye on any upcoming previews, by hopping over to the Total War website.
