[Update]: Total War: Warhammer 2's The Twisted & The Twilight DLC is bringing in goodies for Wood Elves and Skaven.
While this shouldn't come as too much of a surprise given that it was teased a very long time ago, Total War: Warhammer 2's next DLC will focus heavily on the Wood Elves. However, given that the Wood Elves themselves are already a piece of DLC, Creative Assembly has wisely split the new DLC into pieces in order to ensure nobody gets left out.
So if you own Total War: Warhammer 2 and this upcoming DLC, you will get the Wood Elves as a playable faction, as well as a variety of new units, two new Legendary Lords and new mounts. Furthermore, if you own Total War: Warhammer 1, 2 and this upcoming DLC, you will also be able to play the Wood Elves on the Mortal Empires map, though only as the newly introduced factions.
However, if you own everything pertaining to the Wood Elves (so Total War: Warhammer 1, 2 and the old Realm of the Wood Elves DLC) alongside the new DLC, you will also get an additional Legendary Lord, new units and characters to use in the Mortal Empires campaign map. It's a little bit overly complicated, especially if you're trying to give someone a brief rundown of what's what, but even so I'd say it's a good system as it ensures that longtime fans are rewarded without truly impacting new players.
As for the topic of this entire article, Creative Assembly has now confirmed that the DLC will be arriving at some point in December. It's a bit slower than usual, but considering that this DLC seems to be quite a lot bigger than the previous few, I suppose the extra month or two can only be good for the developers.
Once a concrete release date gets announced, most likely alongside a fancy new trailer, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, feel free to start a brand new campaign as you have more than enough time to finish it before the DLC arrives and potentially messes up your save file. Have fun!
