Total War: Warhammer 3 artwork showing off Grand Cathay

[Update #2]: The latest gameplay preview offers a closer look at a siege battle between Tzeentch (attackers) and Cathay (defenders).

[Update]: Creative Assembly has now detailed the lore and function behind each unit in the Cathay army.

During a developer update a few days ago Creative Assembly announced that Total War: Warhammer 3 has been delayed until early 2022, and that we will be getting more news soon in order to tide us over. Well, they certainly weren't joking as we have just received a rather exciting new trailer!

Instead of further focusing on the conflict between Khorne and Kislev forces, this one serves as an introduction to the 'final' two factions - Grand Cathay and Tzeentch. Have a gander, it's a pretty fun one:

The exact details are currently few and far between, but Cathay will launch with two playable legendary lords: Zhao Ming, the Iron Dragon, ruler of the Western Provinces and Lord of Shang-Yang, and Miao Ying, the Storm Dragon, ruler of the Northern Provinces and Commander of the Great Bastion (the one in the trailer). As for the actual Dragon Emperor, he will not be making a personal appearance on the battlefield given that his power level is on par with most gods and would thus remove the whole "strategy" part of this RTS.

As for the actual mortal armies of Cathay, they will be defensively focused and will receive numerous buffs when maintaining close formations. This obviously makes them easy to flank and harass, but the various flying machines, explosive technology and big ol' dragons should more than help to even the odds.

Once the next big reveal goes live, ideally with some news on my beloved Tzeentch, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, you can read a little bit more about Cathay over at the Total War website.

Up for some more?
