If you feel like racing games would be greatly improved by arming everyone with copious amounts of explosives, you'll be happy to hear that a few billion Orks share your opinion. As such, the upcoming Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks is both a racing game where you have to get your ramshackle vehicles to the very end as quickly as possible, and a fast-paced shooter where you and the lads have to wrestle with the opponents for control of various objectives. It's pretty much Ork paradise!
What all of this madness looks like in action, that you can find out through the recently posted announcement trailer. Have a gander, it's pretty much what you would expect from the title alone:
I've tried it for a couple of rounds during the recent alpha test, and I have to say that Speed Freeks has a fair bit of potential. Despite the jankiness of the alpha build, it was still a blast to drive around and slam into other players. So with a bit of polish, and ideally a solid singleplayer component, I can definitely see Speed Freeks being a nice bit of fun.
As for the release date, nothing concrete has been announced just yet, though the brief blurb on Steam does say that Speed Freeks will be coming soon. Whether that's a "in a couple of months" or "at some point before the heat death of the universe" soon, that we'll just have to wait to find out.
That said, you likely won't have to wait all that long in order to be able to give Speed Freeks a try. While the first alpha test has just closed, the Caged Element team has already announced they'll be running a couple more tests before the official launch.
You can keep an eye out for these, as well as learn more about Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks, over at Steam. Enjoy!
