[Update]: Right on cue, Oaken has now been unleashed from Early Access!
Oaken is a card-slinging, turn-based roguelike set in a randomly generated world inhabited by all sorts of nature spirits, both friendly and otherwise. True to its genre, Oaken's gameplay is all about navigating the world Slay the Spire style and weighing the possible risks and rewards of each branching path, fighting tricksy enemies with a combination of spells and spirits, and naturally, managing your deck and making your spirits as obscenely powerful as possible.
After spending about a year in Early Access, Oaken is now just about ready to be released in full. To be more specific, you can expect to see it leave Early Access and land onto PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch this July 20th.
Version 1.0 will be accompanied by a sizable update that will add new customization options to mess around with, new worlds and events to explore, new bosses and elites to smack over the head, a whole swathe of general tweaks and improvements, and perhaps most interestingly of all, a "huge visual update". Additionally, Oaken will be on a 30% discount for the first week after launch, so if you're planning to dive in you might want to wait a few more days before doing so.
What Oaken and its various tree spirits look like in action, however, that you can check out through the freshly posted trailer below. Have a gander, it's a rather cute one:
If you prefer a more hands-on approach, I'm also pleased to say that Oaken has a free demo available. Given the roguelike nature of Oaken the demo has a decent bit of content to it, so if you're even remotely interested in these types of card battlers, you might want to give the demo a try.
You can do so, as well as keep an eye on Oaken's upcoming launch, over at Steam. Enjoy!
