[Update]: Streets of Rage 4's very first DLC "Mr. X Nightmare" is adding new characters, weapons and game mode.
It has been quite a while since Streets of Rage 3, but I'm glad to say that the series has now finally made a reappearance with the newly launched Streets of Rage 4. Much like it's predecessor, Streets of Rage 4 is a stylish beat 'em up where you and (hopefully) a couple of friends go wander around kicking the everliving daylight out of an assortment of over-the-top baddies.
As for what exactly this kind of action might look like in gameplay terms, that you will find out through the recently posted launch trailer. Have a gander:
When it comes to its quality, Streets of Rage 4 is thankfully a worthy successor to the series. There is a little bit of a learning curve, especially when it comes to figuring out all of the enemies, but the character themselves feel good to use while the action is consistently impactful. And for a beat 'em up, that's pretty much all that matters.
However, should Streets of Rage 5 ever get made, I would appreciate it getting a little bit more ambitious. More attacks, more interesting weapon combos, a higher variety of enemies with different playstyles - that sort of thing. As it stands, Streets of Rage 4 is a good game and a faithful adaptation of the series, but I can't help but feel it could be so much more as well!
Whatever the future may bring, you can learn more about Streets of Rage 4, as well as follow any future updates, over at Steam. Have fun!
