Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy 2.5D puzzle-platformer official key art

[Update #2]: Trine 5 has now added crossplay between all the different versions.

[Update]: I have some good news to share! Trine 5 will be launching onto PC and consoles on August 31st, 2023!

After taking a few years off to work on a couple of different genres through Boreal Blade and Starbase, Frozenbyte have announced that their next game will be a new installment of their classic Trine series. Needless to say, the recently revealed Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy is once again going to be a gorgeous 2.5D puzzle-platformer with a heavy emphasis on co-op and all of the chaos that brings with it.

In order to help it stand out from its predecessors, Trine 5 will bring with it a new combat system and tricky boss encounters, a character-specific skill quest system that should add a lot more depth and variety than before, as well as an adaptive difficulty system for both the combat and puzzles. How exactly that last part will work, I'm afraid I have no idea, but if done well I can definitely see the extra challenges adding a fair bit of replay value.

Perhaps most importantly of all, Trine 5 will be bigger than all of the previous games in the series. So expect to see more levels, more puzzles and more battles than ever before. With a bit of luck, all of that will also come with an even greater level of polish than Trine 4!

What Trine 5 looks like in action, as well as what the whole clockwork conspiracy business is all about, that you can check out through the announcement trailer below:

No release date has been shared just yet, but what I can tell you is that Trine 5 will be launching onto PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. That said, the Steam blurb has it listed as "coming soon", so I'd wager there's a pretty good chance that Trine 5 will be arriving at some point later this year.

Once we get an actual date I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, you can read a few more tidbits about Trine 5 and its improvements over at the official website.
