Hand of Fate 2 is a bit of a curious game. Its essentially a combination of an action-rpg, a deck-building card game, and a roguelike dungeon crawler. How it works is that each overturned card reveals some sort of challenge or effect, which can range from an action-orientated combat section that is very reminiscent of the modern Batman games, to a short minigame, or just some good ol' fashioned choose-your-own-adventure decision making. The most interesting part of this whole system is that the various different elements are interactive, so if you have a couple of armor and weapon cards, you can actually use them in the combat sections to give yourself an advantage!
As you can see, all of this is not exactly the easiest concept to explain through words alone, so allow me to instead share with you the launch trailer. Its not a very long video, but it should give you a pretty damn good idea of what Hand of Fate 2 is all about and how it plays. Have a look:
I haven't played it myself, so take the following with a few grains of salt, but judging by the various reviews it would appear that Hand of Fate 2 is a major improvement over the original. That said, you should prepare yourself for some truly punishing difficulty as Hand of Fate 2 can often put you into some highly precarious positions due to circumstances outside of your control. So if you're not a fan of randomness occasionally dictating your successes or failures, Hand of Fate 2 might not be the game you're looking for.
On the other hand, if you're willing to accept the good with the bad, you'll be glad to hear that Hand of Fate 2 is now available on PC, Mac, Linux, and PlayStation 4, while the Xbox One version will be coming in the near future. You can learn a little bit more, or just check out some of the other videos, by heading to either the official website or Steam. And as a final note, let me send you off with a couple of images:
