[Update]: The Hidden Realms patch has now added Acrid as a new survivor, as well as a whole bunch of other content like bosses and extra zones.

For those of you looking for an excuse to take Risk of Rain 2 for another spin, you might be glad to hear that the very first major content update has now arrived! The aptly named Scorched Acres update brings with it a brand new stage to explore, a nasty new boss to fight against, and perhaps most importantly of all, a brand new Survivor by the name of REX!

There's also a new monster, the Clay Templar, as well as a new and highly dangerous elite to contend with - Malachite. These Malachites are so strong that they will only spawn late in a playthrough and come with a unique effect to help differentiate them from the rest. And a good thing too because the Malachites posses a variety of unique abilities they'll constantly pelt you with, including one that disables your healing!

You can also expect to see new drones and chests, as well as nine new items and five new challenges. For those of you that love reading about the lore, the Scorched Acres update has also added two new environmental logs, as well as six new lore entries to peruse. As for the future, you can expect to see another major update to arrive at some point this summer. The details are still few and far between, but according to the official roadmap the update will bring an overhauled skill system, a new character, boss and stage, as well as a whole bunch of new equipment. So despite the name, the future is looking quite sunny for Risk of Rain 2!
