This week has been marked with quite a few Doom related announcements: The latest Doom's open beta is currently ongoing, the graphical/visual overhaul mod Doom 3: Redux is now available, and for those of you that prefer the old school games, Doom 1 and 2 can now be played in virtual reality.
The mod in question is GZ3Doom, and its entire goal is to bring Oculus Rift support to the classic PC shooters, Doom 1 and 2. Here's a brief trailer showcasing it in action:
If this seems like something you would enjoy, you can download the mod from ModDB, and find the installation instructions here.
There are a few things you need to watch out for, however, with the first one being the fact that Doom Guy's run speed is enough to break the land speed record a couple of times over, so if you find yourself constantly disorientated you can reduce the character movement speed by typing "TURBO X" in the console, with the recommended "slow speed" being "TURBO 65". On a similar note, if the head bobbing makes your stomach churn, you can remove it by typing "MOVEBOB 0" in to the console.
Finally, if you run in to any issues with GZ3Doom make sure to report them to the developer over at Github, so that the bugs can be fixed as soon as possible, and everyone return to shooting demons in the face.
