Destiny 2 official artwork for the Shadowkeep expansion with the logo

[Update]: Destiny 2's PC transfer service and cross-platform saves will be going live on August 20 and 21 respectively.

Earlier this year Bungie parted ways with Activision-Blizzard and announced exciting plans for the future, though back then they didn't specify what exactly those plans might entail. Now that the full announcement has been made, I can definitely see why they didn't want to reveal their hand ahead of time!

First and foremost, Destiny 2 will be adopting a free-to-play model with optional expansion packs. In other words, you'll be able to experience all of the year one missions, activities, strikes, pvp modes and rewards without paying even a single cent. However, if you would like to continue on further, you will need to buy each of the new expansions piece by piece. A pretty good system, all things considered.

As a part of this move to a free-to-play model, Destiny 2 will also be making its way over to Steam. If you already have a BattleNet copy, or even a console one, worry not as Bungie has announced that Destiny 2 will support cross-platform saves! Once this features goes through you will be able to hop between the various platforms with one account and play with entirely different friend groups, all the while progressing your main character.

Continuing on with this theme, Bungie will also be getting ride of any sort of exclusive content. So regardless of the platform you're playing on, you will have access to the same items, maps and DLCs at exactly the same time!

All of this will be coming alongside the brand new Shadowkeep expansion in September. While the full details have not been disclosed just yet, expect Shadowkeep to bring with it new missions and quests, new destinations and dungeon, new weapons and gear to endlessly farm, as well as a brand new raid to mess around with.

You can learn a little bit more about Shadowkeep and these newly announced changes over at the official website, and for now I'll leave you with the recently posted teaser trailer. Enjoy!
