[Update]: The balance patch has now arrived, and expected, it's a juicy one!
Hearthstone's recent Forged in the Barrens expansion added a whole bunch of fun new cards to mess around with, as well as the long-requested Classic Mode that let's you play the game as it was back in 2014. Unfortunately, some of these cards and combinations have ended up being so ridiculously powerful that the current meta has firmly solidified around three classes: Paladins, Mages and Rogues.
Things have gotten so bad that according to HSReplay over 50% of the decks played since Forged in the Barrens have been Paladin or Mage, with Rogue and Warlock lagging a fair bit behind. So in order to sort this whole mess out, Blizzard has now announced a major balance update for next week.
The exact details have not been revealed just yet, but I think it's safe to say that Sword of the Fallen, Paladin's weapon that endlessly spews out secrets, will be getting a serious downgrade. The same goes for the Mage's Deck of Lunacy as the small post-rotation pool of spells makes the thing far more consistent than it was ever designed to be. Besides that I'd like to see changes to Pen Flinger and the Mor'shan Watch Post, both of which are currently choking out minion-based strategies.
Once we get the full list of changes, ideally alongside a release date for the update itself, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, you might want to take Classic Mode for a spin. The power level there is insane as well, but at least most of the decks are on the same page so it all balances out. Have fun!
