David Anfossi - Eidos Montreal studio head posted on the Deus Ex website that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is being delayed in order for it to be a worthy successor to Human Revolution, a goal that is certainly not easy to accomplish.

I've mentioned this in the Mirror's Edge delay article but I am more than happy to wait as long as it is needed for a game to be truly finished. As Miyamoto once said "A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever".

So in order for Deus Ex: MD to earn its place in the "good game" camp Eidos has delayed its release to August 23rd, 2016.

I've been a big stealth game fan ever since my first excursion in to the Thief franchise back in 1999 with even today excellent Thief Gold. But the years were not kind towards stealth games and as the Thief series faded away so did the entire genre.

It wasn't until 2011 (a good 7 years after the last Thief game) that we finally got a good stealth game and not just an FPS with tacked on stealth elements. I am of course talking about Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

You won't catch me saying that Deus Ex: HR is a perfect game but something about it just captivated my attention, perhaps it was the messed up world the series inhabits or perhaps its the stealth mechanics that allowed you to beat the whole game without killing a single person (bad boss fights excluded), but whatever the reason its a game I've re-played the game about 4 times already and I'm planning a final playthrough right before Mankind Divided releases.

As I mentioned above, and especially as someone that greatly enjoyed the previous game, I only see positives in the delay. Sure we have to wait a little while longer, but its a small price to pay in order to see the release version as polished as possible.

What the gameplay is like right now no one can tell but the demo video (shown below) from E3 looked good despite it being an alpha build. Unless that whole demo was held up with sticks and glue I think the end result has a good chance to surpass Human Revolution, but don't take my word for it, give it a look yourself:
