Unlike some of the previous patches that were based around new gameplay mechanics or overhauls, No Man's Sky's freshly released Update 4.0 - Waypoint has decided to instead focus on what was already present. In other words, a good chunk of the Waypoint update has been dedicated to creating a vast array of options for you to tweak in order to fine-tune your gameplay experience.
This means you can mess around with everything from combat balance and your ability to sprint to the amount of natural resources found on planets and even the consequences for dying. And if you don't feel like tweaking things yourself, there are also new difficulty modes to choose from that can help you either explore the galaxy at a nice and casual pace or test your mettle at every step with an assortment of new challenges.
The Waypoint update has also given the inventory a visual overhaul in order to make item, technology and cargo management a lot smoother. Inventory capacity has been dramatically expanded as well, with storage increased for everything from Exosuits to Freighters. Combine that with upgrades now slotting into their own technology slots, and you should have a lot more space to play around with.
What this and some of the other new additions look like in action, that you can check out through the update trailer below. Have a gander:
