[Update #2]: Overwatch 2 has just nerfed Doomfist, Sojourn and Tracer, while Roadhog has managed to escape his fate... for now!
[Update]: Overwatch 2's Season 2 has now arrived with a new tank hero, escort map, cosmetics, and a bunch of strange balance changes.
If you're itching for a bit of a meta shake up, or just some new cosmetics to pursue, you'll be glad to hear that Overwatch 2's second season will be launching this December 6th. It'll bring with it Ramattra as a brand new stance-shifting tank, Shambali Monastery as a chunky new escort map to explore, as well as a whole host of new skins themed after Greek mythology. As for the big fancy skin at the end of the Season Pass, this time around you can look forward to seeing Junker Queen cosplaying as Zeus!
You can get a little sneak peek at some of these cosmetics in action, as well as the upcoming (and free) holiday skins, through the preview trailer below. Have a gander:
In my eyes, the highlight of the Season 2 update is definitely Ramattra as his stance-shifting playstyle offers a bit of a different experience than most other tanks. I say this because his normal form is best suited to fighting opponents at medium range while shielding his allies, while his Nemesis form is all about aggressively smashing things in close quarters and pushing the enemy back.
Neither form is going to be particularly strong on its own, so you're going to need to constantly swap around in order to get the most out of Ramattra's rather elaborate kit. A pretty fun idea, and one I must admit I'm looking forward to exploring because options are always a handy thing to have in a game as fast-paced as Overwatch 2.
But enough of my babbling! Instead, allow me to share with you a brief preview showcasing all of Ramattra's abilities and their effects. Have a gander:
The good news doesn't end there, however, as Season 2 will also bring with it a bunch of balance changes. The exact details are still few and far between, but you can expect to see a nerf to Sojourn, a couple of buffs to Doomfist, as well as "adjustmenets" for Ana, Bastion, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Mercy, and Symmetra.
Last but not least, Season 2 will also add a brand new game mode to mess around with - Battle for Olympus. The details are once again basically nonexistent, but it's apparently going to be all about super-buffed heroes smashing against each other. That said, you'll have to wait a little while in order to get your hands on the Battle for Olympus as the limited-time game mode will only be available from January 5th to January 19th.
Once more information becomes available, or the Season 2 update goes live, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, good luck climbing the leaderboards!
