[Update]: Overwatch is looking to nerf Wrecking Ball, as well as buff Winston, Orisa and Reaper!
After being announced only a few days ago, Overwatch's annual Lunar New Year event has now gone live. You can expect to see a whole bunch of new cosmetics, the return of Capture-the-Flag in both competitive and casual varieties, three new challenges that reward an epic skin each, and perhaps most surprisingly, a brand new Bounty Hunter game mode.
The Bounty Hunter mode is a fairly simple concept, as you would imagine. One player is marked as a bounty and gets a whole bunch of bonuses, while the rest of the lobby needs to hunt them down as quickly as possible in order to become the bounty themselves, and so the cycle goes. It's fast, it's frantic, and it's also completely and utterly imbalanced. In other words, it's pretty good fun!
As for what exactly all of this looks like in action, that you can find out through the recently posted trailer. Have a gander:
When it comes to the three weekly events, they are once again following the same formula. Win nine games in any official format (including the arcade), and you'll unlock a fancy new epic skin, a player portrait, as well as a spray. If your time is limited, however, it's probably a good idea to try to complete these challenges exclusively through the Arcade as this way you'll also get the three bonus packs.
The final and rather unfortunate bit of news is regarding Overwatch 2's release date. According to the recent earnings call, neither Overwatch 2 nor Diablo 4 will be launching in 2021. I'd love to give you more details, but I'm afraid that's pretty much it for the time being. The good news is that Blizzcon Online will be launching this February 20th, so we should soon get a clearer idea of just what Blizzard is planning for both Overwatch and Overwatch 2.
Until then, have fun with the Year of the Ox event!
