[Update #2]: Creative Assembly has now detailed the Tzeentch faction and its crazy campaign mechanics.
[Update]: It has finally happened! Creative Assembly has now unveiled the full scope of Total War: Warhammer 3's siege rework!
Given that last week's preview gave us a closer look at some of Cathay's units, I figured today would finally be the day we see what Tzeentch's schemes will bring to Total War: Warhammer 3. However, in a rather surprising twist, Creative Assembly has decided to stop with the small teasers and instead opted to detail every single unit in the Cathay army!
Unsurprisingly, Cathay takes a great deal of inspiration from Chinese history and myths, though thankfully it doesn't just go for the usual clichés. Instead, I'm happy to say that Games Workshop and Creative Assembly have managed to create a rather unique and interesting faction despite many of their units being similar to those already available to the various human empires.
Funnily enough, the unit I'm the most fascinated by is the humble Peasant Long Spearmen. Unlike Bretonnia where peasants are encouraged to stand still and take arrows to the face while the cavalry does all of the work, the Cathay peasants are actually expected to buckle and rout during combat, with more experienced troops being there to patch up holes and finish off tired enemies. I have no idea how well this will translate into actual gameplay, but I do like the idea of having reliably unreliable troops to work around - kind of like Skaven, but without them being quite so disposable.
Once we get a proper gameplay trailer showing off all of these units in action I'll make sure to let you know. That said, I wouldn't get too excited about that happening any time soon considering that Total War: Warhammer 3 was delayed until early 2022, so the gameplay side of things likely still needs a bit more polish before its ready for the limelight.
Whatever the case may be, you can learn more about Total War: Warhammer 3 over at the Total War website.
